Thru the magic of YouTube…

Saving money is great.  I think we can all agree on that.  I think we could also agree on the fact that just when you think that you’ve got everything taken care of financially, something else comes up that needs money thrown at it.  In our house it’s usually kids or cars.  Both are expensive and tend to need things at the worst possible time.

About two weeks ago the door stop bracket on my Volvo’s driver side door gave out.  While the hinges kept it on, whenever you opened or closed the door, there was a God-awful crack and bang that had people dropping to the ground for cover in parking lots across the city.

My first thought was, “Oh man, here goes another $300 or so”.  Luckily, Mark is crazy good at fixing just about anything and after researching it a little bit, said he could do it himself.  And ya know what?  He did.  He watched the same job being done on another S70 on YouTube, ordered the replacement part online and Bob’s your uncle.  Fixed.

Mark had the door off, the bracket replaced and the door back on in less than half an hour. God I love that man.

OK, this was a little bit alarming for me to witness.

Good as new for about $50 out of pocket and less than 30 minutes.

I love that car an unhealthy amount, but OMG the cost of darn near any repair is ridiculous.  Volvo anything is expensive, older model or not.  Love it like a fat kid loves cake, but it can be pricey, so I’m very grateful that Mark is as handy as he is.

This leads me to wonder what else we could be learning about and doing ourselves.  I’ve always wanted to be a pirate.  I’m going to find some pirate videos on YouTube and get this show on the road.  I’ll need a pirate ship and a crew and some bad guys to throw to the kraken once in awhile.  Who’s in?

Thanks to the joy of middle-aged hormones, I've pretty much got the moustache and beard down.
